Our

history

Since 1932, four generations have  welcomed countless guests to the Bärgji-Alp and shared many unforgettable  experiences. From humble beginnings as a small café to a modern mountain  restaurant, we have together preserved tradition and warmth. We look forward  to many more years full of stories and encounters!

1932

The history of the Bärgji-Alp  began in 1932, when Othmar & Josefine Andenmatten (Tschieder &  Tschotschi) provided tired hikers with coffee, tea and milk. Without a road  to Grächen, the Bärgji was a welcome resting place. The small profit was secondary,  more important was the contact with the people. With the first licence in  1936, the Bärgji slowly developed further. During the war years, people were  happy to find food and drink in this refuge. This humble beginning laid the  foundations for today's Bärgji-Alp.

1972

1972 marked a milestone in the  history of the Bärgji-Alp. Alfons and Rosmarie Andenmatten were the second  generation to run the restaurant and decided to carry out extensive  renovations. The old building gave way to a modern mountain restaurant, which  was officially opened on 14 July 1972. The Bärgji was not only a restaurant,  but also a home where the third generation, Jeannine & Patrick, grew  up.  Alfons and Rosmarie had a decisive  influence on the Bärgji and laid the foundations for the family atmosphere  that guests still appreciate today.

2016

Tobias, the son of Jeannine and Vinzenz Williner, has dreamed of taking over the family business ever since he could tie his shoes. Stubborn as he is, he made this dream come true on 1 June 2016 at the age of 23. As head chef, Tobias brings his passion and skills to bear to continue the Bärgji-Alp in the fourth generation. He founded Bärgji GmbH and ensures that the restaurant remains a place of enjoyment and relaxation with fresh ideas and traditional hospitality.

2024

Nicole has now joined Tobias and together they are giving the Bärgji-Alp a new face. Nicole, who comes from Zermatt, brings a breath of fresh air and innovative ideas to the traditional restaurant. Her passion and creativity perfectly complement Tobias' culinary talent. Under their joint management, the Bärgji-Alp has been given a modern touch without losing its roots and family atmosphere. 2024 stands for a new beginning, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand to offer guests unforgettable experiences.
